Check out and help build the NEW CPSObsessed Forum!

Ok guys, I hope you will join me in this experiment that I think has great potential.

The framework for an interactive message board is here.  A very nice parent from Skinner has donated the software and time to building it and my hope is that by allowing people to post discussions and questions, there can be more information sharing without it all going through my poor overworked Blackberry (and brain.)

One thing about this forum is that to POST, you need to register for it, so people will be using consistent names (unless they are creepy and create 2 identities.)  So the benefit is consistent names, the downside (and maybe upside) is that people can’t just randomly stop by to make a comment.   Fewer trolls, anyone?

You’ll see there are sub-sections for school types and topics so this should make it easier to keep track of links we’ve posted that now get lost in the void of WordPress.    I find the forum software a little clunky as well, but it’s a commonly used platform so we should be able to make it work.

I would love it if people registered and posted topics and questions and then we can take turns answering them and responding, etc.  My goal (when I have a million free hours) is to post many of the past comments about specific schools so those are easy to locate as well.

Based on recent conversations, I also added a section on Activism and Education Policy.

There is also a section for Special Ed info, which so clearly needs one central place for people to share information.   If someone here has the desire and passion to start posting stuff, sharing, etc I think it could become a great resource.

Basically the board is what you make of it.  You can post any topic or question you like, so within a certain topic, any of you can feel free to lead discussions and ask each other questions.

The only way it’ll pick up is if people just start using it.   I really want to keep one common active topic here on the blog, because I really like the group discussion and I’d hate to lose that.  So hopefully we can keep the current topics here, but use the forum for tangents.

Give it a try and post and questions and feedback below.  I need to learn to do the behind-the-scenes stuff but in the meantime I will beg our kind tech guy to help us get through the initial phases.

Oh, and write down your login information!  Retrieving it is a drag!!

Nice forum, easy to navigate. Thank you for all the hard work. Your blog has been a great source of everything CPS for me. If you ever start taking donations, I’m in;-)

A forum like this is something I’ve had on my wish list for years. Thank you! I think it will be a great resource for parents, both CPS veterans and newcomers.

Which format lends itself to monetization? You may need to cash in to send your son to private high school!

    Yay! Congrats!

I like it. But, is there a way to show the activity stream on the main blog page? Perhaps it could take the place of the Recent Comments section on the right. That way, cpsobsessed could still focus attention on one topic at a time while allowing people to post in separate threads on the forums page.

    This is great! Thank you.

I joined the forums when they were first up and running (in May, perhaps?). Fantastic idea. There has been very little activity, so I have not been on there much. I’ve been anxious for CPSO to publicize it so we can get more people on there. So, come on people–sign up, and let’s obsess about CPS!!!!

CPSO~you’ll be keeping this blog, right? I like the message board, but I’m on 2 others right now pertaining to CPS and I really like this format~so I’ll be one of the ones sticking around here!

cpsobsessed…. it would be great if you have a link to the forum on your blog page…. I didn’t even know you had this running since May.

  • 11. cpsobsessed  |  September 22, 2012 at 3:03 pm

Okay, thanks for the feedback. It has been built since may but I kept meaning to get it “organized” before launching…and I never have time.
So I’ll just give it a go.

But yes, I’ll add a link!

I think this is really helpful. I love the blog, but have a heck of a time wading through all of the comments. The forum is a neat and tidy place to get information. Thanks!

Do you have a section on the longer day? It occurred to me yesterday when I saw a mom ranting on Facebook about how the longer day now means she hits rush hour traffic on the way home and can’t deal with the longer commute. Of all the complaints I’d anticipated possibly hearing about the extended day, that wasn’t one of them.

I’ll be posting things about high school admissions and CPS high school news on the forum, so if that’s something you’re interested in, head on over!
