New Decatur web site

A reader sent me the link to a fine-lookin’ new web site for Decatur so I thought I’d share it.   This is one nice CPS site. Gives Nettelhorst a run for their money.  Which reminds me, I am going to work on a post about the marketing aspect of CPS schools, a topic that fascinates me.

Wouldn’t it be fun to have an awards show for the schools with things like:
Best Web Site

Best Brochures

Best Overall Marketing Efforts

Best P.R.

Best rehab of a hideous space in a school building

Most attractive use of outside signage

Most clever events to get prospective parents into the school building

Best use of message boards to create buzz

Most inspiring school tour (category for Principal and Parent)

Best table display at NPN school fair

In any case, despite the humor, a big THANK YOU to all the parents who pitch in to make things like this in CPS happen.  It takes a lot of work and free time (often late at night) to keep the momentum going and convincing new parents that CPS can be a good option for their kids.

Thank you… can’t believe I forgot the link!

While it is a nice website, it annoys me a bit that they used a company from Georgia to create it. What happened to shopping local? Maybe the company is linked to a parent somehow…

Decatur’s new website was funded by their amazing PTA. The PTA has really worked hard with fund raising to help fund important things for the school including the website, technology upgrades, and even playground renovations. The website is an amazing resource for parents at the school and those interested in Decatur. It is kept very current and updated at least a few times per week.

@ adad – As a PTA member at Decatur I know they did shop around and looked at a few companies in Chicago. I think the one that did their website was the cheapest quote they got and unfortunately it wasn’t here in Chicago.

I nominate this website for most inappropriate choice of a picture of our first lady. She looks like she’s wearing a bikini. I know she’s is great shape, but c’mon.

^HSobsessed, she’s actually wearing an evening gown. She attended WY’s 30 year celebration (2006?) when Barack Obama was a Senator and that’s what she chose to wear.

Here is another good one; the classroom pages are really being used.

I love the marketing award ideas. How about an award for best school garden — part of a community marketing effort?

Ravenswood’s site is really beautiful as well! I liked the videos a lot, particularly the one featuring reading.
