Originally, Schneider and Prescott were on the list. Prescott for complete closure next year and Schneider for phase out – no new students admitted. I haven’t seen any changes to the Schneider plans. So, Alcott HS and Schneider plans seem to be unknowns now.

Congratulations to the Prescott community for working together to save their school. But where will Alcott HS find a permanent home? I’ll bet the folks at Schneider were relieved when they thought Alcott HS was moving out – what are thinking now? One school’s reprieve is another school’s death warrant. Maybe the deal the alderman sought was to have a larger, state-of-the-art high school built in west Lincoln Park for Alcott HS. This whole episode is just another example of how poorly CPS manages their real estate assets due to their inability to accurately forecast shifting student populations.

Wasn’t Alcott HS originally supposed to go to the old Schneider building? Is that building still unused?
